전시소개

SYM(b. 1998)은 예술활동의 목표를 현대인들의 ‘불안’이라는 감정을 예술을 통해 긍정적으로 승화시키는 것으로 삼았다. ‘불안’이라는 감정은 불편한 감정이면서 삶의 ‘원동력’이 되는 감정이다. 그의 작품에선 부정적인 에너지, 긍정적인 에너지가 함께 공존한다. 이는 ‘불안’으로부터 얻는 양가적 감정을 표현하기 위함이다.

그의 작품은 사각형 캔버스로 된 작품이 아닌 자유롭게 성형된 모양을 가진다. 형태의 자유로움은 인간의 상상력을 시각적으로 실현할 수 있고 하나의 독립적인 사물로 만들 수 있는 조건이 될 수 있다. 그의 작품의 주제는 현실에서 느끼는 감정의 실체, 현대인이 느끼는 불안 속에서의 모험이다. 그는 실존에 대한 불안을 작품으로 대중들에게 소개하며 불안이라는 감정에 대해 밝혀보려 한다.
